A beautifully colored, scalloped, porcelain bowl that makes a stunning gift. This is piece is entirely handbuilt from colored porcelain. First the clay is colored by kneading powdered metallic oxides into it. Then as many as 40 or 50 different colors are formed into a patterned block of clay, which is sliced to create slabs. These are rolled out, cut and manipululated to form individual pieces, which are dried, fired, and glazed with a food-safe glaze, and refired to about 2200F. Each each is signed the artist. This piece is approximately 5" in diameter and 2 1/2" high. Don't forget to check out the other pieces by this same artist by clicking on the link below ("Same Artist Pieces"). These pieces should be handwashed as needed.
"I am fascinatted by the possibilities of clay, and also by the contrast between clay in its wet and fired states. When I make amy pieces the clay is soft; it can be colored, cut, rolled, twisted, woven and formed into any shape. After it is fired it is hard and brittle, the opposite of its former self. My goal is to capture the sense of fluidity oof wet clay in the finished piece."
